Let's start with "Hello"

I guess it makes a difference from "Hello World", though that was my first thought - old habits are hard to fight.

So who am I? Calling myself an old hairy gamer is perhaps accurate for one out of  the three definitions - being in my 30s, I'm still part of the average gaming demographic, and while there is no doubting that age leads to being a touch more hirsute, it is calling myself a gamer is the least disputable.

I've been playing games since the 80s - losing more money than I can comprehend in the arcade cabinets at a restaurant near my primary school, displaying the patience of a saint while waiting for ZX Spectrum cassettes to load, exploring a marketplace where the debate wasn't about which one of three consoles was best, but which one of closer to a dozen computer formats. I have seen games and the games industry change a huge amount in the years I've been playing, and while I may not actually be old, when I look back I definitely feel it.

I do have hopes for what I can put in this blog; reviews of old titles that have stuck in my mind, or some analysis on what is being announced now... I realise that this is a random blog from a random person on the internet, something which takes the principle of "random" and redefines your expectation of it with pictures of kittens jumping motorbikes over sharks*, and so any hopes and promises made here mean little until there is proof... but let's see.

* = maybe.
